Sunny skies are fast approaching, which means Forest Fest 2012 is almost upon us!
Forest Hill School’s annual community arts festival will take place on Saturday 7th July from 12pm to 5pm. With over 4000 visitors expected, this year’s festival is promising to be the biggest and most exciting ever. With a variety of top-notch music, dance and drama performances confirmed, alongside children’s activities, art workshops, an exhibition and arts market, the programme is bursting with a wide range of talent and art for the community to enjoy.
Funded with the generous support of ETDE FM Ltd, Chartwells, L & Q, Snappy Snaps, R Woodfall Opticians and Fusion Lifestyle, highlights from this year’s programme include music by the FHS Jazz Collective, UpROAR, the Kilmorie, Fairlawn & Stillness Schools MASS Choir, Lewisham College musicians, the spectacular 200-strong St Bartholomew’s (C of E) School Choir, plus a special appearance by south London’s Raw Vibes Collective featuring MC Floetic Lara, MC Tagz and MC Antiqu'e, which promises to be a powerful set. With Rock, Soul, Indie, Pop, Jazz, World music and more on the bill, this is a stunning line-up not to be missed!
Adding to the live performances, The Albany will present Uncover and Dig Deptford, two of its young and talented theatre companies who will perform vibrant and unexpected pieces, bringing colour and energy to the stage! Younger Forest Fest-goers and budding novelists will have a chance to meet children’s writer and ‘Being Billy’ author Phil Earle, who will share writing tips on finding inspiration, creating characters and building plot in his book signing session. Plus, for the kid in all of us there’s Professor Palmermoff’s Magic Show and captivating tales from around the world performed by storyteller Sandra Agard.
Topping this there will be face painting, dance, circus skills and Hula Hoop workshops. Visitors interested in music and developing their instrumental skills can drop-in to the ‘It Kickz’ Music Tasters funded by Youth Music’s Open Programme, while in the funtastic ‘Crochet a Medal’ workshop visitors can learn how to crochet their own winners' medals and rosettes.
To round off, visitors will enjoy ‘Meetings, Encounters & Experiences’- a visual arts exhibition created by Forest Hill Sixth Formers, exploring the identities, histories and experiences of a group of African, Caribbean and South American retirees from the Vista Reminiscence Group. There will be plenty of stalls to tempt visitors; from handmade toys and crafts to vegetables from our very own school garden! The Forest Hill School PTA will be providing school fete classics – tombola and bouncy castle to name a few. Plus a selection of tasty treats and mouth-watering offers will be available, with something to please everyone, from ice cream to Caribbean cuisine.
Forest Fest 2012 is sure to be full of diverse talent, great food and drink, and of course lots of fun!
